Installation Showcase: Packaging Line at Sam Miranda

Scaling up bottling sometimes comes with a trade-off. Faster lines can mean more oxygen pickup, less consistent fills and labels that drift out of position, and for a winery, those compromises end up in the bottle and on the shelf. The line we recently installed at Sam Miranda in the King Valley (VIC) was specified to avoid that trade-off. Our technical team has completed installation and commissioning of a Borelli bottling monoblock paired with an STS rotary labeller, giving the winery a complete rinsing to labelling setup built for volume without giving up control.

Speed where it counts

The Borelli Monoblock runs at up to 2650 bottles per hour. Bottles are cleaned in a 12-head XP rinsing turret before moving to a 16-head gravity filler fitted with Borelli's new Mark 10 EVO filling heads, which deliver a 20% faster fill rate. A Futura ROPP capper finishes each bottle.

Speed is only useful if the product is protected along the way. The monoblock includes a deaeration and sparging station, with nitrogen sparging before filling and capping to keep oxygen exposure to a minimum. Operators run the entire unit from an intuitive touch screen.

Three labels, one pass

From the monoblock, bottles move to the STS rotary labeller, which applies front, back and neck labels in a single pass. A mechanical cam rotates each bottle to position the neck label precisely, and the electronic variable speed drive allows the labeller to match the pace of the filler, so the line runs as one system rather than two machines working against each other.

  • Labelling stations: Front (partial body), back and neck adhesive labels.
  • Label orientation: Mechanical cam for bottle rotation.
  • Speed control: Electronic variable speed drive with inverter.
  • Controls: 7" touch screen.
  • Safety: Full safety guarding, double-sided guides and chain.

Commissioning

As with every Q-Pack installation, our technical team handled the full process on site, from installation through to commissioning, so the Sam Miranda team could move straight into production.
